I am starting on my friends 1986 Monte Carlo SS on Monday and was wanting your opinions as to which clear you would use, I have plenty of Euro 2020 and Universal 4000 on hand but am up in the air which would be better? I also would like your opinions on how many coats of clear? I painted a wrecker last September and sprayed 3 coats of Euro on Friday, I went over it the next day with 400 and sprayed 2 more coats and waited 2 days to denib and buff. The results were very nice, I want this Monte Carlo to be an eye catcher and would appreciate your advice. As always you guys are the best teachers I have!

They are both fantastic clears. I believe the Euro will be more scratch resistant since it gets harder after full cure. The drawback is that it makes it more difficult to buff up again later.

There are many show cars out there with UV on them.

Just a thought since your loaded up with both the 5000 and 4000.
If me i would do 3 coats of the 5000 and wet sand with 800 and then 3 coats of the 4000.
That's just me but you can do all of either or use on top of each other after sanding.

Five days before doing anything. Sometimes longer if possible. In other words clear it, wait 5 days minimum, sand it, then re-clear.
You put it outside a couple days, then sand, then let it sit out a few more. The sanding will allow the solvents to escape gooder.

That's what I've been doing on the show stuff and I'm in love. I started doing both with 4000 but I like the initial build of the 5000 especially if there is any graphics or two tone.

My friend just completed a 71 duster and said the guy has atleast 90 thousand in it, Boy oh boy he could have bought 4 for that price. Well any way he sprayed Sherwin Williams dimension on it and Oreilly's 65 dollar a gallon with activator production clear with 3 coats and a wrecker I painted in Sept. For my buddy got way more attention and good comments. I sprayed 6 coats of Euro 5000 over 2 days and sanded and buffed and man o live it popped!
