Under pressure

I thought I'd be cool and put a new gasket kit on my Prolite. Well, now it's creating back pressure and causing my PPS cup to get harder than a tick at a nudist colony. Any thoughts on why this may be happening?

Thanks!

I'm no expert but that sounds like something in the air path. Did you mess with the fan adjustment assembly? If so take it apart and check it out.
Or maybe fluid path is blocked and causing back pressure? Does any fluid come out the tip?

Good luck and looking forward to hearing the solution. I have the same gun.

I changed the o-ring on the fan adjustment. It was identical to the one I removed. Fluid comes out but also bubbles in the cup. The pressure got so high, it popped the collar off the cup.

Fluid and air paths shouldn't intersect at all on a regular gravity feed gun, except in the area of the air cap. Seems like it would about have to be in the area of the fluid nozzle and air cap, if there is a gasket in that area it might need to be checked. Can't say I'm familiar with ProLite guns.

FWIW, I had the same thing happen to a HF spray gun.
Hope this helps

I'll check things in the morning. I'm calling the helpline too. Great info!

Did you guys ever clean your guns between jobs by loosening the air cap and covering the hole? It would bubble just like this. I hadn't put 2+2 together.

I pull the air cap, nozzle and fluid tip. Every time. Lots of paint behind the nozzle.
I personally use carb cleaner on the gun.
Some may disagree with that and only use reducer.
But carb cleaner cuts paint like no ones business and is designed to not harm o-rings and such.
Makes it easy. Break it down, few shots of carb cleaner and its done.

Yes if you have a air leak at the air cap it will bubble up, pressurize the cup. Some people do this cleaning their gun. They loosen the air cap a smidge, lower the pressure, and with some thinner in the cup pull the trigger. Percolating I believe they called it.

I’ve heard that before. No ill effects? I meant to try it. Carb cleaner cheaper than gun cleaner lol. Wonder about brake parts cleaner? I always have cases of that on hand.

No ill effects here.
My understanding is that brake cleaner is much harsher and will damage seals etc.

I use aerosol gun cleaner. And, break it down but not completely.

Turns out that I needed the plastic tool on the left to seat the seals properly. With that, all's cool. Now, I can't blame the gun anymore.

I appreciate all of your help!

I actually had a defective fluid tip cause this on my ProLite. It would flutter when spraying and bubble in the cup. I tore the gun completely down. Like to never found it. I purchased the gun new, and the fluid tip was so tight on the gun, I thought I was going to damage it removing it. I believe this is what caused my issue.

Sems XXX gun cleaner #77763 is my favorite. I use it only on my aircaps.
