Trouble with plug welds

I’m going to come back to update this because I just switched to .030 wire and that has made ALL the difference. That allowed me to use a setting very similar to what Chris suggested, it’s very high heat and slow wire speed. The result is a hot flat plug weld that fills the entire hole. My plug welds aren’t embarrassing anymore.

My welds are better in general with the heavier wire, even on sheet metal, so I think I’m going to stick with it.

I ditched the stupid plug welding tip for my Mig gun. Too hard to see the wire.

The other thing that has helped was getting the truck bed on a rotisserie so now I can make horizontal welds instead of vertical welds while I’m contorted and can’t see anything.

I also switched to .030 wire many years ago after reading Robert’s advice on the trifive forum. Never looked back… :)
