Awesome! Good to hear you are having success. Some welders .030 really does work better.I’m going to come back to update this because I just switched to .030 wire and that has made ALL the difference. That allowed me to use a setting very similar to what Chris suggested, it’s very high heat and slow wire speed. The result is a hot flat plug weld that fills the entire hole. My plug welds aren’t embarrassing anymore.
My welds are better in general with the heavier wire, even on sheet metal, so I think I’m going to stick with it.
I ditched the stupid plug welding tip for my Mig gun. Too hard to see the wire.
The other thing that has helped was getting the truck bed on a rotisserie so now I can make horizontal welds instead of vertical welds while I’m contorted and can’t see anything.
