I see where the SPI catalyst for the SPI clear can be added to a base coat as an option.
What I'm wondering is that I'm about to paint part of my wife's 2018 Toyota Highlander in Blizzard White Pearl, so that makes it a tri-coat (base white/pearl coat/clear).
PPG says it is mandatory to use their DX57 catalyst in both of the base coats, so what I'm wondering is if I can just use the SPI catalyst instead for the same result.
I surmise that the reason for the mandatory catalyst in both bases of the tri-coat system is to speed up dry time and stabilize the pearl for the clear coat.
Any thoughts on this?
