Time to top coat

You do realize that 2K urethane is porous right? 20 years old, I can guarantee you that there are speckles of surface rust on the metal underneath that primer (at the very least) . No way in hades I'd spray over 20 year old exposed primer. Inside or outside storage would make no difference to me.
To each his own though I guess.
Not my call or i have to walk out or be canned for not doing as owner wants.

Maybe just explain it to the owner and let him/her make an informed decision. Then if they don't opt for the correct method they can assume all liability for when it does fail. The epoxy is only as good as what's under it.

Done long ago. He knows whats up.
And im told it was epoxy. House of colour epoxy, was yellow so i assumed a 2k of some type

If it was my call whole car it woulda been dissmatled and striped and start over and be in base clear.
Thiers that shitty all metal filler under it all. Part why the redo. Its letting go on next layer of mud in corners and seems.
Opening a can of worms, was only supose to be repaint front from accident, but then i cant paint over cracks on body so it turned into a quick freshen up to last the rest of his lifetime.

Last one i did. This is a paying customer. All done right. Basicly bottoms of all panels replaced. Cut cowl apart to reshape it and move firewall back for bigger engine. Alao an old skool laquer job.
Sitting waiting for the sand n polishing.

If it was yellow that was EP2, and has the good Chromates in it. That being the case I’d leave it there. That was some good stuff and stuck to about anything. It was indeed epoxy

Yes it was ep2. If i saw issue as i sanded id have pushed to take it off more than i did. Whatever blk laquer primer was on top totaly came off.

House of Kolor used to have Chromate in their epoxy, and it stuck well to anything. With the introduction of regulations and restrictions many years ago, they have removed the chromates, hence the CF (chromate free) in the new KP part number. They used to carry the EP epoxy, that took about two to three times as long to cure than the KP, and it worked extremely well on flexible parts. I painted this carbon fiber drag bike using the old formula EP, and once all was painted I rolled the flat side panels (the ones behind his feet) into a circle. No cracking or failure of any of the paints. They stopped making the EP epoxy when the Chromates were outlawed..

Found my info in faq. Didnt see a link anywhere to that so had no idea thier was one.

What is the time frame to top coat epoxy?

Top coat with more epoxy or 2K primer up to 7 days wo sanding. Top coat with base or single stage wo sanding within 24hrs.
2k has to be sanded before painting over, and waiting 24hrs is a minimum for me, 2K shrinks, so waiting longer than 24 hrs to sand and paint
over gives much better results. Paint over 2k to soon and after buffing and left in the sun orange peel will come back.

Nobody using 2k. This is about epoxy

Just for more info, straight epoxy can be topcoated after 24 hrs. up to 7 days later, if sanded. After 7 days, it needs more epoxy. This came straight from Barry.

Ya ive found the info since this started.

Painted them tonight. Ended up a diff route when flaws popped up once in epoxy.
Fixed that last night, scuffed them all down and sealed and painted today.

Wait, more Epoxy if waiting more than 7 days? I have the seal coat on but decided to wait and thought I should be ok with a light sanding before top coat and clear.
