TIG Welder suggestions

Here is a very good tig welder at a VERY good price, Primeweld. I bought their multi process welder last year. I will be buying their stand alone tig welder later this year.

Do a YouTube search for Primeweld. Not one bad review for their products. Their stand alone tig welder gets rave reviews.

Here's a link to their website.

I bought a Prime tig welder about a year ago. It is a very nice piece for the money. my only complaint is the start up arc. Even on the lowest setting when you initially start the arc its high for a millisecond, but that can cause burn throughs on thin metal. I have been debating on buying a new pedal in order to possibly remedy it. Not sure if that will help though.

^^^^ this for sure... I'll be watching to see if you find a way around this. Once I'm going I'm happy with weld quality, but have burned through so many times on arc start (thin sheet metal) that I have occasionally grabbed the MIG gun to avoid this. I'm not experienced enough to know exactly how to solve so appreciate any thoughts. Otherwise I like the Prime.

My buddy said he had a similar issue with one of his Miller welders, and he said the higher end pedal fixed the issue.

Since I'm normally in an uncomfortable position, I find that the finger trigger works better for me... I may need to lay a piece of scrap near my seam and start the arc there... that was going to be my next way of addressing this. Starting it over a backer and then continuing along also works but isn't my favorite way of doing it
Thanks, Mike

As long as the gap is tight tight and I start with the filler rod on the panel in location where im starting the arc itll work good.....but as usual im a hack so the gap aint always tight!

Hello all. Also running a Primeweld TIG welder since August last year with their water cooler. Have very recently acquired something called "TIG Button", basically a no moving parts torch mounted button that controls the amperage (harder you push on it the greater the amperage output). Still getting used to it and am wondering if anyone else is using one and what their thoughts are, especially in place of a foot pedal in those wonderful positions we find ourselves trying to weld in, getting ready to repair cab corners and rockers on my truck..............thanks
