Well its all done! My first attempt at painting, and it was a complete success! So far, everyone who has seen it has been surprised I was the one who sprayed it! Thanks to Barry and all the regulars here that took the time to answer a noobs questions![/ATTACH]Notice the Cutlass in the garage, my Chevelle came out nice enough for my father in law to have me do his car. All SPI again, and more in the works! Thanks again guys. IMG_0869.jpg

Dukes,

Wonderful job there. It feels good doing it yourself and then getting complements from others on it. And see you you have others wanting you to paint their car now.

Great job.

I see you are in the Chicagoland area. Where about are you? You going to take her out to local cruise nights?

Thanks! Its '69 Dusk Blue. Not a real popular color, looks beautiful in light. The bc/cc finish gives it amazing depth and gloss, million times better than the lacquer that was on it before. I followed the perfect paint job to the letter. Pics don't really due it justice. As I mentioned before, I'm doing my in laws car now. I expect it to come out even better, based on all the things I learned from my own car. I had never even buffed a car before this. I have quite an investment into body equipment now, for a hobbiest anyway. I'm kicking around the idea of getting a base gun:D gotta run that one by the wife.

Being as i am such a nice old fart and look out for others I will try and help you out.
Give me the keys to the car and I will take it far away form Chicago and you will never have to worry about it getting rock chips, water spots, etc.

I think it is time for your father in law to pay for all those tools you invested in!

2 thumbs up!

I used PPG DBU, was very easy to use and turned out fantastic for a 1st timer. I have since used DBC, which I now prefer because I can use SPI reducers. I didn't have a choice with the Dusk Blue, was only offered in DBU. I recently did a repair on the door, I had enough paint left over because it was DBU, the 1.5 to 1 goes a long way. Why the beef with PPG?

Sprayed in the garage you see in the background. I washed the floor several times and squeegeed before making a booth out of plastic sheeting. Still managed to get lots of trash in the clear. Learned my lesson about cleaning the car thoroughly before spraying, and managing flying insects, lol. I have since drywalled and painted the garage, makes for a much better spray booth. I don't even hang plastic anymore.
