Tekna Copper Replacement

Combo Man & Mod
I'm thinking about replacing my basecoat gun, a trusty old Tekna Copper. It still works okay, but I think I want to retire it to sealer duty. But I like how it sprays base, with a soft fan that is forgiving of not being at a perfect 90 to the surface like in the middle of a truck hood. I'm used to it and I like it. But new ones are getting hard to find and seem overpriced. Maybe I should upgrade to something more worth the money. Something like a ProLite maybe? Anyone out there with Tekna/DeVilbiss experience that could chime in?

And no, I don't really want to switch to SATA, and I like my Iwatas for clear and single stage. I did not like the purple cap.

I have a Tekna Copper with a 1.3 and 1.4 tip set. It really is a great gun and fairly easy to clean as well. Also has bigger cup on it than my LPH400 so makes it nice for spraying completes.
Let us know if you find something you like as much or more than the Copper.

Can't help you Crash, but '68: As much as I hate to recommend HF, I have this 1L cup on my LPH400, and it fits well

@Leonard1 , links sometimes don't stand out well with this forum software, so it helps to underline them like so by doing this:
Code:
[u]this will be underlined[/u]
will look like this:
this will be underlined
(I did that to your link for you.)
Pretty wild that fits an Iwata, I massively overpaid for my genuine Iwata cup lol.

I'd probably try the cap that seems the most like the 7E7 on the Tekna Copper. I'm not real big on change, it's just that my gun is wearing out and they don't seem to be selling as many of them as the ProLite, in fact I am wondering if they are obsolete.

Crash I know your not a Sata fan but I do have a Sata 1500 Solv it's the blue gun and a lowwer price gun. Picked it up at a trade show for a super discount don't know why but I love it for base and reminds me of my older DeVilbiss guns.

I wouldn't say I am not a fan, it's just that I think they're a little too proud of their stuff, including repair parts. Iwata parts are getting ridiculous, too.

The tekna pro lite is a very good gun. Sprays very similar to a regular tekna I found. DV1 is a great basecoat gun as well but sounds like your trying to stay budget friendly.

Rarely do you have to repair them. Very rarely. They are the cheapest quality gun to own long term. I had a 2000 HVLP that lasted 15 years on the job. You are gonna buy 5 Devilbiss's in that time frame. Plus all the associated gaskets and mucking around with them.

I do understand your logic though. Buy once cry once if you can afford to. And satas are nice. I just think there are also many other guns that are also high quality. Besides who wants to use the same gun for 20 years. I get bored and want to try new things. But I will say over 20 years ago when I graduated I bought some new tools. One of them a Makita rotary. Still using it today. I can’t even begin to tell you how many hours must be on that machine. I won’t tell you what spray gun I bought at that time and how well it’s lasted you’ll lose your mind lol.

All I can say is that I bought the Tekna Copper *used* in April of 2013, and only now am I thinking of replacing it, not because it's broken, but because it's just old. The only time I had to buy anything for it is when I lost a gasket when I had it apart. So, I guess my experience has been different that the average? Possibly because DeVilbiss makes some low-end crappy guns, too, which I will not use.
