Tack Rags

I used a new crystal yesterday and it tracked up the base pretty good. I didn't realize it until the first coat of clear and it had some light streaks of fisheye type crap. The second coat burried them. I always take a new one and ball it up with gloves on and work it to remove some of the extra tack. I ran this cloth over the base as lightly and fast as possible and it still made tracks. I'm gonna try the surgical blues next.

Interesting...just got done painting a 66 barracuda over the weekend and opened a new pack and never had a problem. Are there different types of the crystal?

I've had no luck at all with tack rags. Regardless of the brand. Even following Barrys advice, for me they make a mess. At ford they have some u can scrub the panels with. I had ni luck with those either here!!!

Jeremy, Yes there are more than one type of crystal tack rag,the crystal perfect poly aren't nearly as tacky and are more of a woven cloth. The blue tack rags I tried last week were made by gerson and they look alittle different than the surgical blue. I should see our jobber rep tommorrow and I'll see what he can find out about the surgical blue tack rags.thanks Joe

Will have to check at the shop tomorrow to see which ones i have. The weave on these are pretty tight. Use to get them from my sikkens store..they were labled under the akzo name but were the exact tack rag. Box and packaging looks identical. Higher price with akzo name on it!

I use the premium ones that are yellow in color also. It's always been a problem for me. This is why I usually don't tack the base. I usually use them for tacking the sealer and they work good for that. I don't usually bust out a new one either. I like them when they look like a two week old pair of underwear because they aren't as sticky.

Nah, the cheese tends to dull the tackiness. I haven't went in 15 years but the second week of deer camp was pretty hard on a pair of skivvies.

I agree, they get better with a little use and when they loose their tackiness put them in a plastic baggie in your pocket and they'll come back to life like similar to how hard bubblegum or gummy bears soften in a warm pocket... LOL
