Tack Rags

Hi guys., wondered what everyone prefer's or likes for a tack rag. I've been using the crystal perfect poly and reallly like those but have been told the crystal plant burned down and jobber has purchased all he can get from other jobber warehouse. thanks Joe

I recently used Gerson #2000 blue tack rags. Nothing wrong with them that I could tell. I wouldn't hesistate to buy more of them.

ive been using the surgical blue ones for years. not quite as high quality as the crystal ones but work great and are cheaper.

been using the surgical blues since they came out . they were a big improvement over the old golds which were just too sticky. they would leave residue everywhere. especially when new painters had no idea how to use them. even some of the experienced painters would use them wrong .

Crystal for me, never tried the surgical blue-never seen them before. The tack rag residue is common if used wrong but it really isn't an issue-I've done some tests spraying over those rag marks and they don't affect a thing.

any residue will catch overspray and look like hell if your doing a custom job or a light color car. we had countless repairs with the vans because of streaks or spots from tack rags. was never a problem with the blues unless used wrong .

i used a crystal one the other day at a friends shop. they are really good quality but man are they super sticky and and seem to be way easier to leave residue than the blue ones. its funny unless you are doing woodworking or a house painter the crystal ones are a bit hard to find here. all you ever see are the surgical blue ones.

x2 on the crystals. Never had a problem and prefer them over the blue. They are super sticky but not a problem.

Thanks for all the input guys,Yeah I"ve tried some blue tack rags but they don't look like the surgical blue I saw in previous post. The old crystal tack rags are real sticky and really haven't used those in quite some time. The crystal perferct poly are more of a woven cloth and don't have alot sticky to them.thanks again Joe.

i use the U-pol tack rags. although not super sticky, it worked great and the rag never clumped up into a ball on me

A foot note just so you guys know in case you don't.
What decides the quality of a tack rag is the side of weave in the cloth, the smaller the square the better the tack rage will work.

Also never use a tack rage in a folded up position, the tack rage should be unfolded when you open the package and then waded up into a loose ball and only the weight of the tack rage is used, never apply pressure.

Shouldn't you also allow the rag to breathe before using? I will unfold it and hang it up for awhile then ball it. It seems to be less sticky after doing that.

All the jobbers around here have a box of the Crystal tack rags on their counter. I can't say I've seen it leave a residue?

most common misuse of tack rags! not balling them up and letting them glide over the surface! no pressure!! just like blocking the surface...let the tack rag do the work.
