Stripping Krylon high heat paint

S

sprayerman

I shot my engine and frame to see what it'd look like black with the intentions of stripping it if I didn't like it. Not real happy with it and want to go back to stock.

What would be the best way to get it off? Lots of intricate parts. Thinking SPI Reducer or Lacquer Thinner in a spray bottle, small wire brush, and some rags?

Anyone have any recommendations?

Get used to this word.....disassembly. That's where I would start so I can remove "all" the paint safely with whatever chemical is used.

Really? Even just rattle can Krylon? The paint underneath is in great shape.

A quick search pretty much said a chemical strip is needed. I guess you can try spraying a little thinner on an area the use a power washer. Start easy and work your way up the difficulty ladder.

sodablast it . but even then your stock paint is history . it's gonna look like shit unless you repaint it . if you did not sand and prep then power wash it off .

Ugh.. It's really not that important if that's necessary. I was under the assumption Krylon comes off fairly easy and was going to just touch up wear. Oops! I'll run a little test on the bottom of the frame and see.

If I'm stuck with this finish and want a deeper satin/semi gloss black high heat enamel to match my unfinished tank what paint would you guys recommend to match for the tank (ultimately the black vent guard and fenders)? I have some SPI Black and flattener. Just a matter of doing a few spray outs I suppose?

This is becoming a clusterf*ck on a $1500 dirt bike ha. Thanks guys.
