Steck studlever - don't buy

If anyone is thinking of buying a Steck studlever to use with their stud welder, don't bother. The concept is great, but even the gentlest use will snap the tool in half. I was ultra conservative with the pulling force and it still snapped. Checked Amazon feedback and 25% of buyers complained of the same issue.
At least you get a couple of useful parts to make your own clone.

I have one of these I bought many years ago. I hope you didn’t jinx me... ;>)

Probably when it was still made in the USA not Communist China. Steck used to have some great stuff. I wish we as a Nation would realize that buying 75% of our stuff from a brutal, oppressive, totalitarian commie regime like China is not in our best interest. Ask Steve Saleen how it worked out for him.;)

One guy on Amazon feedback said he had an older one for years and just wore it out. His new one snapped on the first use like so many other buyers did. Steck should be ashamed, they are producing crap. Chicom is as Chicom does.
My "new" one is made from 6061-T6 scraps so should last a while.

Talked to Steck, and they did NOT move production to China, they went with recycled material for the stud lever for a while and soon realized that it was a mistake. They have gone back to their original material, and have tried to reclaim all the defective ones from the field. I guess that was not so easy.
