Spray Lining And Coatings

The Sem Pro-tex dries hard but a fingernail pushed hard will dent it. Then it self pushes the indent out. It would be nice to wash/clean under a body sprayed with it. It's a smooth non porous texture that is nice for a driver. My truck with Line-x would be a nightmare to wash under wheelwells or underbody. This picture is a 356 I sprayed with SEM.

Shine's lizardskin gun will spray some thick stuff. I haven't tried mine for bedliner but lizard skin/sound deadener is thicker than any bedliner I've sprayed.

I still like the SPI bedliner. I have 2 gallons left and just bought a wrecked Silverado that I will probably use it in. Been saving it for something.

ksungela, I've sprayed a lot of that stuff years ago. For undercoating it was nice but It really was more cosmetic compared to bedliner. If one had a used truck with an ugly frame then it would blacken it right up. You could always fingernail it but it wouldn't wipe off.

It would be like 3m undercoat in a can only a lot better because it was thicker and we would use enamel reducer to thin to for a schutz gun.

I would call it top shelf stuff in the used car market but wouldn't use it on a resto. Unless I bought a 57' Cadillac that was original underneath and I just wanted to blacken it up. Then I'd use it.

Thanks Brad. I bought a gallon of Rustfre to try out

Thanks Brad. What would you use on the underside of fenders that looks good and provides stone/chip protection?

Only thing I'd use is bedliner. Probably SEM pro-tex because I know the product. Never used Raptor or any of the others. SPI is my first choice though.

I've never liked the body schultz or other 1k type chip guard products. A lot of that stuff is a rough texture that holds dirt more than the smoother non porous bedliner stuff.

The Rusfre product isn't working out. I thinned it with about 1 pint mineral spirits in a gallon of Rusfre just to get it to spray. Its been over a month now and its still soft on the panel. Anybody try KBS undercoating? https://www.kbs-coatings.com/UnderCoat-Solvent-Asphalt.html
I also have a quart of 3M body shutz, but looks too watery in the container. It'll probably spray easy, but offer minimal build.

X2 on the SEM Pro-Tex... Have used it on several cars with excellent results. Easy to keep clean.
