SPI Medium Red and Dark Red look the same

BEST example is my orange, looks dead nuts to huger orange but in the light it will flip a number of ways and to me one of the most beautiful oranges out there.

Barry you are not alone. I keep bothering John on the Facebook page with updates of the shows it has places in but I have won at least 6 trophies with my Coronet since April and the #1 thing that blows people away is the color. I can't even begin to count the number of people I have had to explain what SPI is and no it is not Hemi Orange. It converted a Chevy guy last weekend, he just kept staring at it. I always say it draws people like a bug light, very very few will walk by it without stopping to stare at it and many bring out the camera. People will walk right by the cars next to me at the show to look at it.

Andy bought his wife a new GT convert and its Ruby red, I love the color and with that color, I truly believe we will now be able to replace 90% of the reds from the 50's to 70's on a full restoration.

None of these colors are made for blending of crash jobs.
Oh, yeah, I figured it would be for overalls, not blends. But coincidentally RR was another color being considered for a musclecar project we're doing, so it would be great to get it in SPI!

In my system, the best looking and most often used variants have a tinted clear that goes over the base, like a candy. My guess is that you will probably try to avoid this? It's a beautiful color. Dodge has a brand new color that looks like a somewhat darker and bluer version of RR, it also uses the tinted midcoat. I think it might be even nicer looking, but it's not as popular yet.

The first Hemi Challenger to sell for 7 figures was that Orange and I warned the guy about the difference but guess I was wrong.
Of course, the Hemi orange metallic is so fine and such a small about most people don't know there is metallic in it.
Seems to me from 10-year-old memory it was something like 20-40 grams of metallic per gallon but I can't remember yesterday, so not sure.

I have to run screaming at any idea of a pearl coat, ake 3 stage.
Yea 70+% of our business is restoration, street rod shops, and custom shops but we do have some do-it-yourself-hobbyists with varying levels of experience and not sure my cell phone battery could outlast the potential problems.

Well if you can reproduce the look without the midcoat, that would be pretty cool. In Standox, the midcoat is a candy dye tinted 2K urethane, so it's pretty hard to use SPI clears over it wet-on-wet. Every time we do one I think we lose money on material, but dang if it ain't a beautiful color.

Painted my first tricoat pearl a month ago. A very humbling experience... :D

Looks like last red needed will be Ford 2017 Ruby red (RR) code, I have a quart on order to start playing. Along with 2017 Ferrari Blue, 67 corvettes Marina Blue and Viper Yellow.
Ok, this changes everything on the truck I'm building. Was going black, I might have to wait for RubyRed or Ferrari blue!
