SPI GREY URETHANE SEALER QUESTION

I have some SPI grey sealer and activator that is 2 years old and I would like to use the remaining quart that is left in the gallon jug, My question is it too out of date or not?

ya, I just sprayed a few small jobs with some matte black and I'd say the activator was 2-3 years old. worked fine.

Don't forget that older brown colored activator used with white epoxy makes a nice creamy colored white epoxy ;)

I want to try grey or black 2k sealer once. I'm just nervous. I've noticed that the 2k primer sometimes sprays dry and I guess I'm just concerned it will do the same thing. I've used ppg, nason and transtar 2k sealers and they laid out really nice.

Hello it lays down nice and flat use the correct temp reducer and one wet coat...and your good to go...i just sprayed a bumper cover with black that i had for about two years.....took me longer to mix it up from settling than prepping the bumper....still sprayed flawless with my devilbiss plus with a 1.3 tip (im slow) 28 psi

Im gonna order a quart and and try it on some of these parts I have to cut in. Thank you for the feed back.

I use most of the SPI products but have not used there 2K sealer. I will use a thin coat of epoxy 30 to 60 mins flash and base. Will order some on next order

i have been using the spi 2k sealer for both my primer and sealer for years. i dont even order any of the regular primers anymore. it sands and spray fantastic. if you use the right tip it never sprays dry or gritty. i spray it @ 4:1 as a super high build with my 2.5 poly primer gun, 4:1:1 as a regular build primer with a 1.8 or 4:1:1.5-2 with a 1.4 as a sealer. keep black and white then i can mix any shade in between. one product does it all.

i dont use it directly to bare metal. like any other urethane primer it would need to go over epoxy or dare i say self etch lol. i have used it directly to gelcoated fiberglass. works great for that. i use it currently as an exterior wood primer. it goes on this exterior mdf board called tricoya. i prob burn through 3 gal of white sealer a week. when i was doing more automotive work then it was getting mixed 4:1:1 and i would use it anywhere you would use any other 2k primer. remember the sealer is just a regular 2k urethane primer. only difference between that and the regular build is that it sprays way better and it seems like the fillers in it are ground up finer so it lays smoother.

The color of epoxy activator has no effect on curing or the quality of the finished product. It doesnt mean its bad. It starts getting more and more amber the day its made and it turns quick. It really doesnt go bad like that the way urethanes do as they age. Almost all epoxy activators do it from primers to glues and laminating resins

spoken by someone who never had to go back down to scratch when you were days away from finishing a paint job.
True anotheridiot, I've never had that experience... Not with epoxy. But as I re-read the thread I see that the original post was concerning SPI Sealer activator, not actually epoxy. I posted about epoxy activator before I realized the subject was about urethane activator.
