Here's a couple of photos of SPI Flat Black Polyurethane Single Stage with half the panel mixed 4:1 while the other half was mixed 8:1. The flattest portion of the panel is mixed 8:1 while the side with more sheen is mixed 4:1.

The first panel was photo'd outdoors (with a cell phone) on the hood of a car with the sun low on the morning horizon.

The second photo on the right was shot indoors in an office with a lot of florescent light.

The left side of each panel/photo is 4:1 while the right is 8:1.

We have had some great feed back on this product and a couple of things I would like to point out.

You can add some urethane reducer to fit your style of painting, should not need much. 2-5% makes a big difference.
Also mix a little and spray a test spot to you can adjust the mix ratio as you see fit.
Let test panels set overnight or about 4 hours in sun will get you close.

Ran out yesterday, making more today, when done testing should be ready to package and ship by Tuesday.

Sorry.

Update, got testing done Friday and last gallon filled about 4:30 Friday, Ready to ship Monday.

Great lighting and contrast on that!! Looks nice and smooth like the sikkens rally black. Gloss level is pretty dang close too...maybe a little glossier...but none the less looks great.

I'm gonna be spraying some today or tomorrow.

How long will the finish last out in the sun everyday? I like the 4:1 mix to use on mustang trim.

Should last as long as a single stage, we did not pull the normal BS, I saw by cutting back on UV obsorbers.
It is nothing more then our SS with flattening added.

Barry,
What is the average life of a single stage on a vehicle outside that?

It is just impossible to say, as just way too many factors play into the life.
You see 10 year old GM paint jobs, that look new and you see 2 year old GM paint jobs that look 20 years old.

I recently tried the Hot Rod Black on a quickie overall job, and I must say I was very impressed. If I can use it and get stellar results, that means it is idiot proof, really. Even painting parts on different days didn't make a difference. Even flubbing the mix slightly did not faze it. It does not seem to settle in the can, which if you know flattened material at all is about a miracle. It's gonna be my go-to for anything that needs less gloss. Really amazing stuff!
