I have a chevy previously media blasted and shot with what i was told was DP40. This was completed over 15 years ago. Vehicle has been inside sense and i am now getting deep into the restoration. there are small areas of surface rust but, minimal. i'd like to scuff and shoot with SPI Epoxy.

Am i Safe? help and advice much appreciated. i'm a Newbe.....

Better take a DA to it and see if you find more rust under the primer. And are you saying the DP40 is 15 years old? Might as well media blast and start with fresh metal if you're spending big money on your project.

i figured that would be the answer. spraying the underside of the body and the inside, along with the firewall. i'm leaving the exterior to the pros.

This is a tough call, if that was the original DP with lead it was the good stuff but not sure on the timeline which one it is.
Re-blasting may be the answer or you might take some 180 and do some test spots here and there to see how the metal looks.

if it softens with lacquer thinner and comes off it is dplf . has to go . if not it is orig dp epoxy. sand good and reshoot .

You know, right now it doesn't take a tremendous amount of time to just sand it off. I mean, it has to be sanded really well no matter what, so maybe it's an extra day's work or so to get it all off vs just sanding. BUT, if you don't sand it off, finish the job, get it out on a hot summer's day, and bubbles start to form, or rust starts to happen, well, that's potentially hundreds of hours of work that has to be redone. Your call, but to me it's an easy decision.
