doing a 1970 boss 302 mustang code t caddy apple red bought spi dk red to use color chip was really close problem is 2 coats match chip and would be a good match for overall but if you spray 3 coats for full covage its to lite . so if you go with 2 coats to get the color we want I see a problem with doing a repair or possiable over lap promblem. should have gone with factory code but ppg was $2200 gal basf was$1875 gal automotive art was $900 spi was $350gal my question would you go with the coats SPI or I was thinking use spi for ground coat followed with automotive art color

Check Chad for Moto-Base price, it's probably much better. Anything other then the paint mixed to the code formula will need to be treated as a custom color, and may always cause matching problems in the future.

I agree 100% but do you think the SPI red activated be used as a ground coat then use moto base over it to get correct color only asking because already purchased SPI thinking that the paint chip over the red oxide sealer was full coverage but after spraying step down panel I can see that not the case

If you are spraying everything separately, keeping consistent coats, pressure, saturation, etc. is mandatory for color consistency. Even using 2 coats for SPI base, 2 coats of final color would be necessary to match
