Spi Clear advise

I need help on choosing spi clear needed for my 65 mustang finally picked out a color which is sapphire blue(paint code G) but i told the paint shop i will get my own clear. Thinking about using dupont or Nason, choices are very limited around here, such as Axalta, PPG , chromabase and other stuff I never heard off, but i need a clear recommendation that I could use to enhance protection and wanted all SPI products except for paint. I have stripped to bare metal and covered in spi epoxy. How many coats of clear is normally needed for wet and buff? Thanks

I would try to talk to the painter, and find out what he is comfortable with. Some may not have experience spraying a high solid clear like SPI. I normally will not let a customer buy their own material. They usually end up with Shopline around here. I like using something that I know works, and will have longevity. Experience with the product produces a comfort level that usually results in a better finished product. 3 coats minimum to sand and buff, depending on a lot of factors like clear used, how wet it is applied, and how aggressive the sanding is before buffing.

Yep with Texas said. Have a customer who gave me 2 bumper covers and hood to refinish and of course he bought the paint ( shopline ) before I received the parts. But to respond to the question I think Euro clear is a good all around clear and easy to make it do as you want. All the SPI clears are great!

I am painting my car myself as my project and have painted one car before, i just wanted a recommedation of what type of spi clear I can use since there are different kinds. I guess I can go with universal clear or just call the rep. thank guys

I restored a Monte Carlo for my friend and went by Barry's recommendation of 3-4 coats of Euro flow coated with 4 coats of Universal, The car has a very deep look with a shine that you fall in love with, I cut the Euro with 800 and let it sit in the sun a few days and then sprayed 4 coats of Universal and let sit in the sun a few days and then cut up to 5000 and buffed.

I think euro is easier to spray but you have to pay attention to the buffing window - gets harder after a week- maybe it was something I did- UC is always easier to buff - even a week later. First time I buffed euro I thought it was easy but last time I had trouble - like I said it was probably something I did

Thanks guys for all the help I called the tech line today and talked with a rep we had a good conversation and after telling him what I was looking for I chose to go with the universal clear. if i screw this up it’s on me, this project mustang is gift to myself after coming home from Iraq and i love doing this for myself and it’s a good stress reliever from a hard days work and from the wifey but I’m sure I can make this happen you guys have always been helpful regardless of the the circumstances. Keep the spi forum rolling. God bless you all
