SPI Black Epoxy - Pot Life?

The spi epoxy iceberg goes deep. Just starting out with this stuff and its helpful to read a whole bunch of peoples experiences with using the same thing i am using

I used to mix epoxy and spray it for days. Each day it thickened a little, but was great at high build and still sprayed out of my 1.5 Iwata. I'd probably use it for 3-4 days. It all changed around covid when the formula started settling quickly. Barry told me back around covid that an ingredient wasn't available or a different version was used. (I don't remember)

For the past five years or so I only spray what I mix that day. I waste a bunch, but it's not sprayable the next day unless I reduce it. Not doing that for consistency.

I'm just more cautious what I mix. It also has a clear solvent that seperates from the mix and sits on top of the epoxy after it sets up. It's just different than it used to be and I've used it almost 20 years.

Still a great product even with the changes.

This is a timely thread, as I literally just came in having sanded and re-sprayed my trunk lid to correct an issue stemming from left over epoxy that I I sprayed yesterday. I am not dealing with high temperatures in my area and had some epoxy in a sealed can that was approaching 40 hrs. When I stirred it up, it seemed fine and ran off the stick like normal. I did notice, however, that there was a lot of particles in the strainer that I normally don't see. I should have stopped there!! When I did my test pattern spray it seemed ok so proceeded to spray the trunk. It came out with a fine texture, similar to over spray. Today I blocked it down with 180 and decided to spray a fresh coat. My learning here....if you intend to use some older epoxy, make sure to strain it into a mixing cup first and if there are crystal like particles, don't bother trying to spray it.
