looks good, I've been using the 2.1production clear too and I reduce .5 to 1 part when I want it to go on slick, doesnt seem to matter how hard I try I have problems getting it on slick without reducing. Its got nice gloss, polish's nice and is pretty scratch resistant. keep up the good work

SW, you did a nice job with that clear.

CRex, I have heard from a number of people that they reduce it around 5% for perfection, something I will need to look into as that is a sign, one of the solvents used would be better if it was replaced.
Last batch of fast activator we made Tuesday, I did speed up a little as this is really our first winter with this clear as far as major sales and a few said it was a little slow.

I didn't mention that some times I will reduce the clear but I do it more for cost savings and to cut back on any peel. I have went up as high as 25% and not seen any issues with it. Seems that you can use different temp range reducers and control dry times a little. what I like is on used car work you can give it a double coat and it says put and your around the car in one pass.

Barry I've been using the slow activator and can get it slick at a 4:1:.5 mix but I will mix at 4:1:1 and it lays down so good, as for myself I like the clear the way it is, it seems very "thick" and with a little reducer you can choose how you want it to look.

heres a few shots of a few jobs I used it on, the black vehicles I reduced the clearIMG_4855.jpg

You guys are doing some nice work with that clear and I want to thank you for the feedback, It all helps us to make the product better and a lot of times it is something as simple as replacing 10 gallons of this solvent with 10 gallons of that solvent in a batch of say 300 to make perfect.

you guys are talking about the 2100 clear right?

if so i do not find it thick at all.

i use the crap out this clear and it is my favorite for Production work.

i have always had some issues with Peel but then again almost all my work is with Factory finish and i dont want it to come out like glass.

i will play with Reducing it for a smoother finish on other Jobs.

yes the Fast activator is a little slow in the cooler weather.

If i remember, Barry went to the same blended UV package for all SPI clears.

Hotbo the 2100 is what Im talking about, I find it to be "thick", I will almost always have peel if I dont reduce, and as far as flash I will keep track next time I shoot this clear but I didnt find them bad at all.

As for the term thick it just seems I can reduce it a lot and I never had it come down the panel on me and it comes out slick every time I've reduced it with nice gloss, when I shoot the UV clear I find it to be thin like I better move quick really be aware of my overlaps or it'll come down on me, I can lay that on slick to but I would never even think of reducing it lol, could just be the way I spray everybody is different.

Exactly!!!! Not even a concern, if clear was a major brand, it would not be half as good and sell for $300 a gallon.

Good to know! I wasnt questioning it, just figured something was held out since its basically $90 for a sprayable gallon. I'm jsut used to the big guys taking "stuff" out to make their products affordable.

Interesting in that most of the feedback was that the Production 2.1 was thinner(than some of the other clears) and went on extremely slick unreduced and now we see some posts where it appears to have gotten thicker and is actively being thinned. I know Jim posted at one time the MS clear was his favorite and it originally seemed definitely thinner but at some point it became thicker and he went away from it back to Universal mainly. Maybe these clears are like people they start out thin and get thicker as they age lol.

The SPI MS was adjusted about 3-5% a while back and for good reason.

The SPI 2100 Production Clear is our thinnest clear and still a "high medium solids", so it will spray thick to some people who are more use to spraying the majors watered down production clears.
The 2100 Production Clear has not change in viscosity one bit since made.

Thanks for the real scoop on the clears. Was wondering if maybe the production had been tweeked a little from the comments but it has not and is thinner than the Universal. Great to get the straight scoop from the guy who makes it!

Its hard to guage thickness feels. as barry said, it is so dependant on what you are use to spraying.

Something else to remember guys is solvency.. Depending on how heavy the solvents used in the clear, will make you "think" its thinner or thicker.. Example.. The MS sprays like its thinner than the Universal clear.. However the MS is actually 1% more solid content..
The solvent choice makes a huge difference and is often not understood

I remember questioning Barry about some products years ago, he explained that there was a solvency change for the better and it made things spray as if thinner.. I honestly couldnt wrap my mind around it.. Im not a chemist after all, but once I sprayed a few different clears that were 2.1 voc.. I understood exactly what he was talking about.. They spray thicker if you will, but they are the same resins with different solvents to meet the voc laws.. You would swear that they are a higher solid clear coats if you simply went off how they came out of the gun..

Okay, Im done ;-)

for the way I spray the 2.1 prod clear seems thick to me unless reduced and I dont feel I have to change the way I put it on, when I used the Universal I felt like I had to pick up the pace and it just seems thin to me, I dont know if this makes any sense its a hard thing to explain.
