Hello guys. I have heard of guys using single stage mixed with clear and than top coating with just clear. Does this produce a deeper shine than BCCC ? Why would one use single stage and top coat with clear ?? I'm torn between Hugger Orange and Daytona Yellow. Thank you.

I have 50% SS and 50% clear on the last 2 coats of my '36 roadster. It is fine but I don't see it being any better than a good SS or base/clear for that matter. I did not add clear on top of it. It is the only time I have done it and to be honest see no reason to do it again.

I will say this. The 36 has been really good about keeping it's shine. It seems to not haze from keeping it clean with detailer. I know the color was PPG Concept. I don't remember which clear I used but I did repaint the doors 4-5 years ago with SPI universal clear.

John- i'm guessing the reason it shines is because ss not base was mixed with clear?
When i added base to clear it looked great, but needed straight clear for that little extra.
I did like it w/o clearing too.
Btw-very nice. Was good day here for that roadster.

Eddie, I would not think mixing base and clear would be compatible. I have known others to mix SS and clear but never base and clear. That is a new one on me. I have two coats of straight Concept and two coats of 50% SS/clear.

I guess I really don't understand why. Would it not take a bunch of coats for coverage, or did you get coverage before you started the base/clear? Even if they were chemically compatible with the lack of UV protection in the base additional clear would be needed,
i would think.

I did it for a quick freshen-up of o.e. paint. Half ass but did entire car this way. Yes future repairs will be a whole side job likely. Yes base & clear mixed fine. I used 1 teaspoon base per 8oz rts clear. Or 16oz crap i forgot.
This is after topped with a few clear coats cut buffed. Definitely catches eyeballs from toddler to 80+
