Paintgunmassacre

Hello there I have been shooting my clear with a Sata 4000B RP with 1.3 since 2013 . I recently bought the new Sata 5500 RP with a1.3 (I) nozzle and I noticed that it atomizes beautiful but dumps way more clear on then my 4000 1.3.....I know I can put a 1.2 in my 5500 and all will be great again but instead of shelling out another $420 for the1.2 nozzle kit on top of the 1300 i paid for the gun , does anyone have suggestions on gun settings for my 5500 to put roughly the Same amount of material out as my 4000 did ? I have always sprayed full trigger, so has other people had to choke there 55's and how many turns etc.....Thanks.

You’ll probably end up around 2, 2.25 depending on the size of what you’re painting and how fast you like to spray. I had the same ‘predicament’ with the 5500 and I bought the 1.2 i nozzle and I’m happier with it.

2-2.25 turns out from closed ? I think I'm just going to have to get the 1.2 i .......Nice to know I'm not the only one who notice the difference. Thanks for the info .

Yes from closed, keep in mind that gun has very coarse threads on the knob so 2 turns out does give you enough trigger pull, it does allow for similar feeling from being wide open.

Other thing I’ve noticed is that if I had to do a complete or almost complete job I’d be tempted to switch to the 1.3 to be able to move faster. It’s worth playing with the settings and see if you get comfortable with the 1.3.

Yes very good point ! Thanks. I will definitely start with what you said And keep ya posted

Try 1 1/2 turns out (from fully closed)fan open all the way, around 30 psi before pulling the trigger. That is what I use in both overalls and collision repair. Gives excellent results. 5000/5500 RP is a lot faster than the 4000 RP. So you need to move faster with the gun.

Yeah I always ran my 4000RP wide open at 32psi all day long with no issues then the first job I did with my 5500 was a small job turned out fine then my first big job doing the cab inside and out on the 55 Chevy build we are currently doing , and the runs I got... I'm sure if I had taken another step I would had tripped on my jaw cause it was on the floor of the paint booth I couldn't believe it .
