SATA air cap seal

S

Steves69LS3

the air cap seal on my SATA 4000 RP went bad and started shooting air out behind the cap everytime i pulled the trigger.
went searching on line and for a 5 pack of seals costs $50!!
so i did what any sane person would do and started measuring the original seal.
it measured

1.5" / 38mm outside diameter

1.4"/36mm inside diameter

0.04"/1mm thickness

i just got a 10 pack of rubber O-rings with exact dimensions to the originals for under $5
this can be used as a reference to anyone who needs a new air cap seal for their SATA 3000/4000 guns

Sata is proud of there parts that's for sure. A co-worker just replaced the same
seal but he just bought one. They do last if you take care of them but still... Good idea so long as you don't submerge it in thinner.

Yea it wasnt rubber. But you either pay upwards of $50-$80 for five. Or $16 just for one
I have no type of cash for that. The rubber ones i got came 10 in a pack for $4.77 free shipping

if you find the rubber ones arent holding up to the solvents or something then let me know. shoot me an email or a pm or something. i can 3d print those things out of a soft nylon 20 at a time for far less than what sata wants.

Jim, there you go again, thinking outside the box with your toy ;). Seriously though cool idea with the printer. Have you done that before? How did they work? I will have to remember that when I need something like that, you need the original to match it, Right?

yeah to get it nice and accurate it always helps to have an original to copy. i dont have to have it but without it there may need to be a test piece or two done so get it so it fits right. spray gun parts, even gaskets like that tend to be rather precision pieces. a square plastic o-ring is pretty basic though. i havent made that particular piece before but i have made cup lids for my lph80 and minijet.

sure. you said it went bad? in what way. is it just broken? i know some sata stuff like that tends to shrink. does it still fit correctly? as long as i can take a pair of calipers and get some measurements off it then thats all i need really. ill send you a pm

ok just an update. steve and i have gone back and forth in the mail with a couple revisions to get these right. i now have them available for the 3000 rp/hvlp, 4000 rp,hvlp, minijet 4&3000b, 100b/1000b. if there are some other more common sata models you would like to see these made for just shoot me a pm. i have them running on ebay. not hard to find. they all have the part # in the listing.

Thank you again Jim for working with me. These prices sata puts on their parts are gonna bankrupt people who own their guns. The rings you sent fit perfect and are much more flexible and durable than the original.

apparently its a popular part to go bad. i tossed them on ebay last night. woke up this morning with 4 orders. obviously it must be hard for everyone to stomach the sata prices and have been waiting to buy new ones. funny i thought this was something new on the 4000 but i just forgot when all my guns were a month old those things got damaged and i ripped them all out. i even tossed them from my iwatas.

Jim do you still offer these on ebay? if so what is your seller name, Im looking for a couple for minijet 3000B, thanks

no i dont. the cap seal is completely unnecessary. i havent had any brand of gun with a cap seal in it in 20 years. they only last me like 2 weeks when the gun is new then i just rip them out. they make no difference in how a gun sprays. i have a minijet 3000...no cap seal necessary.
