Sanding Clear Coat

There really is a lot to grit technology that makes things act different. Also, if the sh*t don't clog, it will sand more aggressive. If you're resanding dust you just sanded, results will be slower & paper life less.
Got a couple of festool 6" sanders at work now, which have a good dust pickup vacuum setup, which works great with wood & any surface which is flat enough for the vacuum. Not sanding your dust really does speed things up.

This is Barry’s black base coat and Euro - I am far from a professional:
1) wood block with 800 grit wet
2) 1000 grit eagle yellow film dry on DA
3) 1200 grit eagle yellow film dry on DA
4) 1500 grit Pink Tolex wet
5) green bufflex wet
6) 8000 grit trizact wet

buffing:
1) 3D ACA 500 xtra cut with wool pad
2) SONAX cutmax - orange pad ( extra step but it’s a black car and I suck at sanding
3) chemical guys #36 black pad - done

I got pretty much most of this formula fro reading Jim C’s threads and it works !

Guys, thanks for all of the great information! I have spent DAYS reading through all the threads on sanding information and am suffering analysis paralysis on which abrasives to buy.

@Dave C5, thanks for the specifics of each step. @texasking, @ JimC, I have read over and over again your steps in multiple posts. Yet, I still don't know what I'm doing.

I know this is a lot... I am planning on following DaveC5 steps listed above on SS black, but still not clear on a few things. When to use long strokes like "planing wood" (according to shine), or short back/forth sanding? Random orbit, or Rotary? I'm a little nervous about sanding with a power sander (pigtails or burn through), or if I should do all steps sanding by hand.

Obviously, I can't do it all with a 6" DA. I will have to do a lot of contours by hand. Should I buy all the grits in both DA disks, and sheets?

My current plan is to buy assilex 5 sheet kit (Sky 600 through Peach 1500) with hand blocks, 1000 & 1200 yellow film disks, 6" assilex interface pad, Peach 1500 disks. Undecided on bufflex or trizact.

I use a Festool Rotex electric sander with 3/16" random orbit or full rotary.

Thanks
