Sanding Block Usage

I totally understand the reason to rough in your body panels using rigid blocks but I'm having trouble finding info on whether you should continue using the same blocks as you progress thru the grits (320, 400, 600) to get it ready for paint.

Do you use these same blocks or do you switch to a smaller more flexible one? It seems to me you are only refining the scratches and won't be removing much material, that the flexible block would be ok.

I use acrylic blocks up to 220 grit, then guide coat and use a softer foam block for 400/600 when sanding primer.

Then use smaller acrylic blocks for initially sanding clear flat with 600/1000, and soft foam above that.

The main principle is to use hard blocks when using grits that are course enough for shaping or flattening, then switch to soft blocks for smoothing/refining scratches.
