Sanding 2200 matte clear

I am painting trim on a 1986 Monte Carlo and using the 2200 matte clear, I have some dirt nibs and don't know what to do? Sand and buff?

I have worked with Matte Black (not matte clear). If you sand, I don't think you will have any luck matching the Matte finish without respraying. I had a few dirty areas in my Matte black that I needed to fix. I figured I would end up respraying those areas, but I tried to spot sand first and sand or buff my way back to the Matte finish. I could get a somewhat similar sheen, but no where near close enough for what I was doing. I tried several grits of wet sanding, as well as some compounds. I ended up doing a quick sand on the entire panel and shooting another coat. Looks perfect now.

If you decide you can't live with the dirt in there, it wouldn't hurt to try a few things before respraying.

Like said you can sand and recoat but you cannot sand and buff.

I have on wood & fiberglass entry doors at work carefully sanded down a spot & went over area with synthetic scuffing pad to get the matte finish back reasonably close. I have some type of white pads that are pretty fine & worked for this. I also have finger buffed spots with compound & cotton rag, then scuffed back.
Trim is small, so you might get away with that just fine.

Thanks guys for the help, I am OCD and want everything better than it is. I may just sand and repaint and clear again.

The good news is you will only need one coat so dirt will not be as big of an issue. 15 minutes and it will flash off and be safe from dirt. I just went through this on my dash. End result was all I could want.
