Sagola 4600 Extreme, anyone use it?

Hi guys,
Well I'm another newbie trying to buy the best gun. I have been reading for weeks now about guns and like all the newbies I cant decide. Iwata 400, Tekna Pro lite, and now the Sagola 4600. I see the Sagola 4600 is being pushed hard on the "other site". Anyone over here have it? Going to be paining an experimental aluminum airplane. Going with all SPI products, except base. Have done a few cars in the past with CC/BC all came out well but needed cut/buff. Can't cut/buff a plane so want to get this paint to lay down like glass if I can. Not trying to rehash the never ending gun debate but looking for a SPI forum opinion on the Sagola 4600 Extreme. Gunman says it might be better than his beloved Pro Lite? Thanks in advance for any advice.

In the past their products have not been on par with the best guns out there. I'm a SATA guy and try to convert anyone who asks questions like these to a SATA because they are the best. They will last many years if taken care of and replacement parts are easily available. And they spray world class. THat being said the skill of the painter not the gun is the biggest determining factor in the finish you achieve.

Take a look at this gun; Sata 5000 RP 1.3. Perfect for spraying any SPI clear. I use it everyday. Best clear gun I've used in my nearly 25 years doing this.
I've ordered one from this Ebay seller. Ships from Italy I got it in 6 days. Also a SATA holds it's value, should you ever want to sell it, even years later it will still bring several hundred dollars on Ebay.

I have the 4500. I don't paint as much as a lot of guys on here ,but I can't imagine that the 4600 won't do everything you need to do. I spray SS and b/c with it. Works absolutely as advertised.

Thanks guys for the response. I know the gun is a small part of the puzzle, and a good painter could lay down better finish with a cheap gun than I could with an exspemsive gun. Though for some reason I'm all hung up on guns!

Chris thanks for the advice on the Sata 5000, $500 to my door puts it now in the same price point as evethting else! So should I just buy it and move on? If I did the Sata 5000 B RP for clear what would be a good gun for base? I can get a Tekna proline kit for $440 and use it for base? Should I just drop $1k and buy both? Do I need to, or can I shoot base with the Sata. Money is a bit of an issue but not a show stopper. A quote to paint my plane is around $15,000. If I spend $2k on paint and $1k on guns I'm still way ahead.

RDM, thanks for the info on the 4500, seams like Sagola has some solid guns and I bet the Sagola 4600 extreme would be great, just can't decide. If all the top guns are equal I would love to just buy a $400 gun and be done, but if I can get a slightly better finish with a $800 gun I would happily pay the extra $400.00.

Thanks Again guys!

I have a Sag-ola for clear, a Run-ola for base and a Peel-ola for primer.
Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

Wait the Sagola will run? Gunman says he got runs with the Sata the first time out. I would prefer a forgiving gun but I also have giant airplane wings to paint and a super slow gun might pose a problem....maybe not. So whats a good run of the mill base gun?

thanks

Teknas are pretty good for base, the newer SATA SolV 1500 is a decent basecoat gun too, about the same price than Teknas.

The Iwata LS400 Entech is also a good basecoat gun, but more expensive than the above.

This is meant as constructive criticism, not negative. If you are asking if a gun will run then you have a long ways to go before you should attempt to paint a plane with the goal of no buffing.Painters get runs not guns. Have you ever sprayed anything before? If not then you need to try and learn some basics before you attempt that plane. Even though the guy is kind of a douche I would still recommend his book. "Kustom Painting Secrets" by Jon Kosmoski. He covers a lot of the basic things that you need to know. You Tube can be a good source if you can weed out the wannabes spouting bad info versus guys who know what they are doing. Also SPI President Barry would be your best bet as he loves helping noobs like you and he can walk you through learning to spray. Barry would be your best bet. You buy his Clear the President of the company will bend over backwards trying to help you spray it like a Pro. Seriously where else will you find such top notch support?

Oh and you can shoot your base with the gun I recommended. Guys do it all the time with that gun. Atomization is on a whole different level than many other guns out there.

I guess I miss read what Bentrustynail said on the first read, I get it now. Yes like I said I have painted a few things including a 68 Ford Bronco that was just in 4Wheeler magazine last year and just did a perfect match on a Infinity silver spoiler the other day. Though I don't paint day in and day out like you guys so I'm far from up to speed on the latest products, and like I said I always end up sanding and buffing and I'm trying to avoid that with this project. I have already decided to go with all SPI products and have two boxes showing up tomorrow with primers to get started. This airplane project is 10+ years in the making and its almost done just needs paint. Its been a crazy road to get to this point and I'm just trying to not screw up the paint or spend $15,000 for someone else to paint it. I will post some pictures when its done.

I like the Pro Lite. You get a good selection of tips that will do about everything you need.

The Iwata LPH400 is a great gun, it's been near the top of the pile for must be 10 years now. Low-ish air consumption too if you're air limited. Devilbiss guns tend to be air hogs, don't know about the new Teknas though.
