S/W Genesis LV

Hello, I am a novice painting my own vehicle, and have been snooping these forums and picked up a lot of useful information.
I am painting a Sprinter van and planned on using Sherwin Williams Genesis LV as the single stage top coat. Currently the van has 2-3 coats SPI 2K Regular Build Primer over SPI Epoxy Primer. I spoke with the S/W rep today and he was a little reluctant of the application because the SPI products have not been tested with the Genesis LV system. Typically it is applied over epoxy primers. The PDS does list some acceptable primers/surfacers.
My question is: how concerned should I be about this?
I could shoot the van with reduced epoxy as a sealer, would this increase chances of success/long term adhesion?
I know no one can give me a guarentee of success, just looking for a little input from folks that know more than I do.

For one thing the TDS you posted does mention DTM urethane primers as a suitable substrate, of course it only lists Sherwin Williams products. I highly doubt you'd have a problem of incompatibility between the SPI 2K primer and the SW single stage.

If you decide to go the SPI epoxy as a sealer route, yeah it will increase adhesion and durability.

The SW paint rep shouldn't be so quick to dismiss SPI without at least doing some research about it.

Many different single stage paints are used over different brands of 2K primers every single day on collision shops without issues.

Any paint rep that pushes the 'use the same brand of paint' from undercoat to topcoat nonsense usually have an agenda and they're looking only after their own interests, that's called being a d!ck and poor salesmanship.

I better put my soapbox away now.

Thank you Jorge, that is what I was thinking as well. I plan to proceed. If I have time, I will probably do the seal coat, but my warm-weather window is rapidly closing.

Jorge has it right and with the products, you have used so far will be superior long-term (that's what counts) to anything he has in that system.
My question is what color and how did you choose that system?
Also is this an insurance job or a restoration you or someone will be keeping for years?

Hello Barry,
This is my personal vehicle I hope to hold on to for a while. Sprinters of this era ('03) have a notorious rusting issues. The Genesis product was suggested by a fellow sprinter owner (who has used it) as fairly easy to apply with good long term durability. Color will be a short of medium shade of blue grey with a satin or semi gloss finish.
