Does it all evaporate out? Say if i add 10oz, how much remains?
Wondering for shrinkage reasons. Thanks.

10oz added to what and how much of a mix are you thinking? Also what air and surface temperature? Not trying to be a smartass, just thinking the more knowledgeable users need more info.

And I’m kinda surprised to be reading about retarder this time of the year when most shops are reaching for the Polar Accelerator lol

Just using 10oz as a round number for ease of percent evap.
I'm spraying my 91 caddy trunk lid. After base & first coat of clear, i'm wanting to try a one & done flood coat.
It's tarped good, let the drips fall where they may. Reduce psi & soak it like water bottle. No cloud of overspray.
I always cut & buff, perfected sanding runs how i spray lol.

I have done this with straight Euro clear- no reducer. Just a slow methodical application and very wet. This was the result:

I also tried the retarder method. Two coats of clear and then a third with 30% retarder added. This was the result:

In the first picture you can see a hint of what I believe is urethane wave from the heavy application. In the second picture the reflection of the ceiling light indicates a fairly flat surface.

Thanks all & amazing 68. I know hard to believe this time of yr retarder. I'm south FL.
30%- you saying 10oz rts plus 3oz?

So that day was 70F & used 4004 activator which = retarder without adding any.
Plan was shoot 1st coat of clear with base added as i did whole car to restore color & blend which works, but i got a few heavy runs so i had to stop & put it out in the pasture till i can block dark runs.
After they finish shrinking i'll hard block everything & put my final straight clear flood coat & block it. Did whole car this way. People bug out at grocery store especially when i say i did it & from wheelchair.
Had dent when i got it 15yrs ago. Had to finish cause everyone stares at car. GM black sapphire.
Spray with almost no fan pattern cause i can't reach & hold gun straight, that's why i like clear to stay wet long. Works if ya good at sanding heh.

Thought I'd show how trunk lid turned out. I didn't use retarder, hosed on a few coats with 4004 activator, (yes runs/sags) blocked & buffed a few days later. Shown after buff.
I edited text some & just want to give props to spi & say thank u. Good stuff.

Old soul asked if retarder added to universal would make it run more.
I don't have good answer cause i always run with/without.
If 68 wasn't getting bugs in his teeth atm & likely having time of his life, he'd chime in.

it is retarder because it is way too hot to be called reducer . in the old days we would load up lacquer so hot we would melt stripes and make them sag even under many coats of clear. 1 oz per qrt should give you what you need. especially if you shoot early am .

105 thinner and retarder were a necessity on a hot, humid, or rainy day, and man would it make some scratches swell from down deep:)

This is out of the gun? Holy shit man I have never got any spi clear to lay out that flat. I've always had a gripe about the flowout of the SPI clears, but since my stuff always gets buffed i just let it go.
