repairing and blending plastic bumper

I'm repairing the front and back bumpers on a buick Lucerne with fusor 152, I usually use sherwinwilliams adhesion promotor in a spray can before priming but it's not 2k .I would like to use all spi exept for base i'll be using pro base. I'll be blending the repair areas and clearing the whole bumper, can I use spi adhesion promotor with activator, epoxy primer, and let dry overnight and sand then blend and clear. I usually blend and clear but sometimes fine scratches show up in the clear. I usually water sand with 800 and a grey scotch bite. Would a finer grit be better or do I need to spray the whole bumper with a inter coat clear first then blend and clear. Thanks.

The only place you'll need and want an adhesion promoter is on the bare plastic areas, sanding with 800 and or scuffing with a grey scotchbrite and scuff paste is perfect-you won't have any scratches showing. If it's a difficult metallic shoot a coat of intercoat clear before your color goes on.

Do I need to use a 2k adhesion promotor. I'm planning on spraying adpro, epoxy waiting 2 days then sanding with 800 on primed areas and grey scotch brite and scuffing paste on areas I'm going to blend.

I was in the process of typing when you posted, I was going to ask wouldn't spi 600-4 with 6501 be 2k? thanks AAE and Bob. My main concerns with the 1k was if I broke through and had to dust in some epoxy and it wrinkling and I was planning on activating my base. If I was spraying the whole bumper I wouldn't worry so much but with blending I was worried about the edge wrinkling.I have done it the other way with 1k a lot but I want to do it the right way not just half a$$ it to save money. This is my grandmothers car so if it ain't right believe me i'll here about it!

I try and put enough primer on and be careful enough with the sanding not to have any break-throughs to bare plastic. It's a pain when that happens, and it just needs to be avoided. If the break-through is small enough, I will seal right over it rather than try to finesse more adpro onto the spot surrounded by fresh primer.

If you breakthrough and are worried about a reaction, you can use waterborne primer over that area. It has no solvent to attack with.

I don't normally but being as I had to cover up the car to paint the fender and being as I didn't have any help to put everything back on it wasn't really easier but I know me and I will somehow get scratches on everything trying to put it back on and it will pee me off and I've already had my moon fit for this month!

If I'm blending I like to have everything in place especially when its metallic.

2 coats universal clear. I still have to buff the old paint so it will match better. and clean everything up. I should have blended the door and rear quarter and cleared the whole side but cheap insurance didn't wont to pay for that. I still think ultra 7000 blends better than pro base but it's cheaper. Guess i'll have to learn it. IMG_5253 (640x427).jpg
