Removing mold on an old motorhome

Wetstuff

When I first got this 2002 Winnebago, I told myself; "Shee'it - I'm just going to clearcoat it with the Euro 5100 I had such good luck with. That will make it look like a Mercedes RV." Dumb-ass... The FIRST thing is to clean the sum-bits, which turns out to be a ton harder than it looks. The sides are a lamination of interior skin (melamine?) - plywood of questionable parentage - FRP matt with a thin skin of gel-coat. (a civilian analysis - not expert opinion) The front cap was done like a typical boat; a nice female mold shot with gel-coat and chopper gun. Here's a week's worth of tools and chemicals in no specific order: 3M pads - blue scrub - green scrub - Magic eraser - Gray and Red 3M painter's pads - a couple of different brushes. Chems: Dawn - cleanser - bleach - Ammonia - TSP - Hydrochloride - Peroxide - tons of water.

The variegated surface is totally resistant to being cleaned. The small craters in the surface were just a bugger to get to. (I could not find a decent brush to work the surface - I sure wish there was a DA brush...) After a buncha time, I pulled out 1500 - 3000 - 5000 and got it 'pretty' good. Pull out the wool pad and Mystic Cut and head for the finish line... Then you see the leftovers real good. My final solution was easier than I expected: I simply painted with a brush Peroxide I got at Sally Beauty Supply. It's a 40% mix (more and it burns skin pretty good). Left overnight and washed off. The pic is below a window after I brushed it on.

Just a thought as I would never expect that all this work is necessary!! Why not go to Lowes or home depot and get some deck cleaner and wipe one fender about 6.00 PM and put a piece of plastic sheathing over it for the night and get off by 8.am Worth a try!
