Removing lead to weld metal

Having fun learning!
Hello. I have a car that I am working on. I need to weld up some trim holes. There is lead there that needs to be removed so I can weld - I know what happens when you dont remove the lead, and I dont want to do that again. Last time I tried melting it out, then wire brushing it, then welded. It didnt work very well... lots of spatter and grinding off of crappy welds.

So, how do I get it all off?

grind or sand as much as you can OR melt it out like you did before then hit it with a blaster. the blaster will eat the lead away quickly.

Alternatively, you can use a wire wheel in a drill, or black cookie disc to clean the area after using a torch. Wear some form of protection for your lungs while you are doing it.
