Recommended gun for single stage underhood semi flat black

I need recommendations for a reasonably priced gun a couple steps above the HF purples for the underhood brackets, core support, inner fenders etc on a early Camaro restoration. The HF gun does well enough on the epoxy and build primers, but is a disaster on the topcoats in my opinion. I just shot the rad support and now I need some sandpaper!

I've read about the Iwata LPH400 and I'm sure it would work, but I'm farming out the body to a pro but I would still like to do the underhood stuff and the subframe.

I would like to stay less than 200, but if the perfect gun is a bit more I will go for it.

I've got the compressor end covered with a Eaton 5HP 2 stage 80 gallon and a good drying system.

Also, anybody have any recommendations for a good mix ratio of PPG DX10 flattener and the ESSS Essential black for about a 60% gloss level? I know this is an SPI forum and I love the primers but thought I would give the PPG Essential line a try.

Thanks for the help.

I have several guns, Lph 400, Sata 5000 rp, Devilbiss tekna and 2 sharpe razors. I bought one sharpe razor new in the box on ebay for 150.00, That is a 500.00 gun and it sprays excellent. I like the Sata and Iwata the best but they are expensive, That being said you can get a new Devilbiss GPI for around 235.00 and it is a great all around gun. I have also saw some good buys lately on Walcom and Sagola guns on ebay, There were a few Devilbiss Tekna coppers that sold for around 250.00. You can't go wrong with any of these guns and you can get a really good deal if you are patient.

Thanks for the suggestions, JC. I appreciate it.

I'll look into the Devilbiss GPI and the Tekna's. I have an old Devilbiss siphon gun that worked great for me but its past its prime.

If your planning on doing a decent amt of spraying definitely get the best gun you can afford, take care of it and you’ll get many yrs of use out it. There’s plenty of reasonable used guns, just bought 2 LPH400’s for 500bucks in like new condition from eBay.

I went for an Iwata W400 from eBay thanks to JC Daniel. 179.00. It may not perform as well as the LPH400, but it seems to get good reviews. Looks like it takes a bit more air than the LPH. Kind of a borderline HVLP-LVHP type of gun.

I'm not planning at the moment to do alot of spraying, but after my current restoration who knows? If I get reasonably good at it I may have a new hobby. I just hate to re-do things due to crap equipment, but since its not my living I hope I don't have to have top line stuff either. I don't have the space in my garage at the moment to do a whole car so I'm going to farm that part out. Just doing all the small parts now in a temporary "booth" I fabbed up to my garage door.
