Re clear old paint

Hey guys is it possible to only scuff and shoot some clear on a faded paint job??

Hard to say. If the clear is breaking down...you might not be able to "cover it up" with new clear. At that point the clear is a weak link and probably a matter of time before it starts coming off.

Sure would hate to put time and money into something like that only to have it fail down the road. You don't now when or if it will....

Why not try hitting with a buffer a little bit at low rps and polish it up? Might not look like a fresh paint job but look better than faded.

Very good point, hit spot with buffer, if looks like new you are good to go.
A lot of times, it looks like the clear is breaking down but it is really the base and if that is the case, it will not buff out at all.
Pick the worst 1 foot area and don't sand just buff.

If red, silver or gold, good chance base is going.
