process for urethane endura nose??

So I am finally almost ready to spray my 73 RS camaro, last piece is the endura nose cone. The unit is pretty nice but will need some filling and sanding to make it right. I blasted all the metal, removed the old paint, and put 2 coats of epoxy on it but it needs to be filled and finish sanded, anybody have any recommendations?

I think that part is urethane, I'd definately strip it mechanically by sanding or media blasting-don't use any chemical stripper. Clean with waterborne wax and grease remover-don't use any solvent based cleaners. Do your repairs, how big are the repairs? tears? gouges? When the repairs are done scuff the whole thing down with a scotchbrite/water/scuffing paste or Ajax and rinse really well then clean with waterborne w&g remover, shoot two coats of epoxy primer and let it set for a few days-then sand and reprime as needed. SPI epoxy works very well on these flexible parts-best IMO. For repair material on the bare plastic SEM, 3M, Fusor, Kent all make some good plastic repair products. There's also flexible polyester glaze that works well over the epoxy primer for cosmetic repairs.

Thanks Bob, I was about to use poly but it just didn't feel right - glad I asked! This part doesn't have any tears or gouges but it does have some of the typical deformity that these things always seem to get with age. I cleaned it with waterborne and it has mechanical scratches in it from the reshaping block sanding I have already done so I think the epoxy base should have bonded well. I will let it set for a few days, scuff it, skim it with flexible filler (didn't even know they made such a thing), block to 320 dry, and then put a couple more coats of epoxy for final wet sand - sound right?

Thanks for the advice!

Mike
