Primer question from a past PPG user

New here. In the past I have painted a handful of musclecars in my garage with very good results. Its been a few years but I have a new project. A 74 Z28 that will be stripped to bare metal and painted medium red metallic.

The last 4 projects I used PPG products from my local paint supplier. They are no longer and I have heard great things about SPI. Previously I have used 2 PPG primers under basecoat. DPLF over bare steel, followed by filler work, K36 prior to final blocking then reduced epoxy as a sealer prior to base.

Obviously I will want to use SPI epoxy in Red Oxide as the base will be red metallic. But what SPI 2K primer will build and sand similar to the K36?

Is there anything that I should be doing differently using these SPI primers vs. the PPG stuff I am used to?

The regular build is closest I have to 36, but mine is a lot thicker.
I'd recommend the turbo because its set up to reduce 4.1.1, but you can cut more or less for your needs and make it the viscosity you want.

Wow, are you in for a pleasant surprise. SPI epoxy is so much better in every way, from build, to sanding, to corrosion protection, etc., etc., etc. SPI urethane primers also sand and build way better than K36. I use a lot of the Turbo primer, and it sands so easy you'll think there is not much there, but there is. I used those PPG products for many years, and there is just no comparison.
