Primer Blocking Question

I just blocked out a panel starting with 80 grit and worked up to 180 grit and now I am ready to spray on another two coats of primer. After I shoot the next two coats, should I start over with 80 and work up through 180/220/320/400, etc? Or can I shoot the next two coats and start right in with a higher grit, i.e. with 220 then 400/600? I guess what I'm wondering is do you you have to start over with low grits everytime you shoot additional coats of primer?

I wouldn't sand primer with 80 at all. If you are using reg. 2k and not polyester I would go over the body work with 180 and 220 dry. 220 the whole car. After next round of primer 320 dry if you are happy with it being straight. I not go with 220. Then go to finer grits. If you are new to this I would use a guide coat. It just depends on how picky you are.

No need to block 2k with 80. SPI sands very nice, I usually start with 180. On the final round, I usually start with 220 and take it within 90%, then get the last 10% with 320.
