Here is what I dont understand, they say inflation is eight or so%??
Solvents are up min 30 to 100%.
Isos doubled.
Cans im not close at 50 to over 100%
Polyols at least 50%.
All the additives are up way over 10%.
I know it is my math, but I can't get the 8%
No matter if old math or new math is used.

You won't get it with any math.
I think some of the increases are real based on supply.
But I think more of the increases are opportunistic.

Are the SPI listed prices going up accordingly on June 1 per the notices? I was going to place an order right after Memorial Day so it didn't come when I was gone for the long weekend, but let me know if I should do so this week.

One more market report on paint and coatings. With some sort of crystal ball forecast.

The whole Country is FUBAR. A few weeks ago 49 Senators voted to allow abortion right up until the moment of birth. Shameful. Those same Senators are all against the Death Penalty. It is truly a stain on this Country, on all of us. 63 million since 1974. Think about that. If you can escape the womb you have rights, but not if you don't. The only true innocents in this world. Sorry this touches a nerve with me.
Our President is a geriatric feeb who is clearly suffering from dementia. The Admin is happy that gas prices are this high. They are still canceling oil leases on Federal land, even though the Bakken find is the largest in the world. They want gas to be over $5 a gallon to facilitate the move to EV's. Even though our infrastructure in this Country is not capable of supplying the electricity (rolling blackouts anyone) nor are there enough charging stations. All the while both Parties continue to run up insurmountable debt that will eventually cripple us.

I could go on but I better stop. Sorry for the rant. :)

Of all the price increase shocks these days, steel is the one that surprised me the most.
Need some 24" long metal tubing for a building project. Right now I can get aluminum tubing for structural use cheaper than galvanized steel through suppliers that deliver to my workplace. Never saw that coming. Not that aluminum went down, just steel went up that much due to made up reasons.

In early 2020 I had enough cash to build a Shop on my land without borrowing anything. Then the Pandemic hit and prices of steel buildings doubled then actually tripled. Construction cost with me doing all the work went from around 65K to 175K for what I wanted to build. That killed my plans for the time being.
Steel had come down some, it has gone back up though. An example, I was paying around $70 for a 4x10 sheet of CR, it is now around $180. It was in the $200's last year though. Aluminum has spiked alot. A sheet of 4x10 3003 .063 was around $130 before the pandemic, it's now around $320.
True inflation has to be around 20%. It's a shame it's gotten to the point where even economic data is being politicized.

Government reporting of market conditions are typically months behind, and in recent years; yes, they are fudged to fulfill political demands/wishes. That or its just sheer ignorance.
I love hearing "we are entering a recession" when in fact, we ARE already in a recession. And stagflation is it now, hyperinflation is coming soon enough. Buckle up, its gonna be one hellava ride! $40B to Ukraine is just adding jet fuel to the dumpster fire already in progress.

It seems as though the necessities have some of the highest inflation rates and they are big part of our budgets. Things like gasoline, food, rent (thank goodness I own my home) and propane. Probably natural gas too. So far my electricity and water bill haven't skyrocketed but if they did it wouldn't surprise me.

I'm thinking that a severe recession period or maybe even a depression is in our near future. I also don't think that prices are anywhere close to topping out. I hope I'm wrong.
