on to my next project. I have a car that has factory oem 20yr old finish. Car has about 3 door dings , other wise its nice shape. Going to play with some dry pearls on it. Oddly enough, I've only really done restoration work and no factory respray so I was thinking of this process

1. Fix all the dings and bruises.
2. Da sand whole car 400 (should I use 600?)
3. Spi epoxy sealer
4. Ground coat
5. Intercoat pearls and tape graphics
6. 3 coats euro
7. Da sand 600.
8. 2 more coats euro.

I guess my question is what grit should I prep the overall factory finish it? Not doing any door jams on this car. Only the outside.

400 DA is fine. On a job like that, my procedure, FWIW, is clean car to remove any contaminants, 320 DA whole car, repair any chips, scratches and dings, prime what is necessary, 320 dry block dent repair areas, 600 wet and gray scotchbrite with scuff stuff or ajax. Wash one final time thoroughly with Dawn. Then proceed with your #3.

320 on an interface pad is my go to on factory good clear also. Never had an issue epoxy sealing over it and going to base if no repairs. if it was a crazy metallic color would think about a quick hit with 600 but honestly haven't got bitten yet!
