Prepping a galvanized tailgate?

N

First of all this is my first paint job and restoration. When I found out about Spi it was a no-brainer who was supplying my primers and clear. So far it is coming out better than I had hopped for. Not bad for 20 and not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Now, I have been stripping all of the panels down to bare steel with a special wheel on the angle grinder and then da'd every inch I could with 80 grit. I bought a reproduction tailgate and the whole thing is galvanized. They welded through the galvanizing so it burned it off a little around the welds. How should I go about prepping it? Or just scuff it up with the 80 on the da? I'm a little worried about the galvanizing causing problems with the epoxy.

Perfect!!!
Buzz the tail gate with 80 DA real quick, nothing serious and clean with 700 dry and let set 45-60 minutes, 2 or 3 coats of epoxy and you will NEVER have a problem.

Sand the weld areas real good with the 80 grit.

Nathan43 do you have build thread on another forum? I have a 73 and will be starting my build soon. I found this forum by chance and will be using all SPI myself. I tend to square root things before I do it, but this is the best site hands down. Great talent, experience and willingness to give guidance when asked, , plus you don't get flamed for asking newbie questions
