Porsche 911 backdate project

I do just that quite often. I do a lot of paint peelers that are stripped to metal with 80#. 2 unreduced coats epoxy, and if no damage, 320 or 400 wet sand, seal, and paint.

That seems efficient to me! Why waste time and materials. I also like how the black epoxy shine works perfectly as a guide coat if you are only sanding one round.

It’s all done blocking with 220. I think only the hood might need another coat. The rest has enough build to block to 320 and seal. So this evening I started taking it all apart for interior work and eventually final paint piece by piece. Lots of cleanup to do now before primer inside.

Okay I finally made some progress. The inside and outside of the parts all have 2 more coats of epoxy primer. I'm very happy with how it turned out. These will cure for a few weeks and then I'll sand with 400 grit and paint them! Finally!!

Now need to finish the bumpers, then the main shell. Same deal, inside and out, undercoating, etc. I'm finally getting the hang of laying down the paint with going too heavy. I found that a super thin first tack coat, then wait 20 mins, then do a medium wet coat, then wait 45 min, then do a heavy wet coat.. that worked. Very well for me.

Oh quick question here. Do I really need a sealer coat?? If these parts sand out with 400 grit with zero break thrus to metal or filler, then can I just spray color on them?

Sealer is for best adhesion. If you are within the 7 day epoxy window, sealer is not as important, but after a few weeks, it's mandatory.
Ok thanks Crash. I’ll plan on that. I want these parts to cure very well before the final sanding so I’ll need that sealer coat for sure.

After a day in the hot sun the final primer looks pretty good. I’ll let it sit for a few weeks while I do other parts and the chassis. But it gives me some motivation to look at it. I’ve finally learned how to lay down epoxy “well enough” to get the job done.
