Polyester Primer Gun

I am thinking of purchasing a separate gun for poly primer (slick sand or G2) and would like to know what tip size seems to be preferred?
I have a 1.8 that gets it on the panel but was thinking something larger might be better.

I use a 2.5 sata poly gun. I always thought it was a 2.0 but after looking it is a 2.5. Sikkens poly is double the thickness of slicksand and needs a 2.5. Could probably get away with a 2.2 on slicksand. The 2.5 sata really puts it on there though..

Only sata gun I have..LOL

2.2 reduced a splash is good for flow. How much for the sata gun jeremy?

My cost was around 200-300 I think. I've tried the route of cheap primer guns and just doesn't work for me. My primer gun gets used just about daily. It is the 100 B F RP which is their regular primer gun, just bought an extra 2.5 tip/needle set for poly. So total with extra tip set was around $300-400. Had it for a few years so can't remember exactly.

thanks. what tip or gun do you use for urethane or epoxy?

1.8 for urethane. 1.8 for epoxy also if I'm using it for build. Otherwise I spray unreduced epoxy through my lph with 1.4. 1.4 as a sealer reduced also.

You can use urethane reducer in poly, but it will slow the cure down some and lengthen the flash times...which can be a good thing in the summer. You can also use acetone to thin it down some, it won't affect any dry/flash times. I usually just use reducer since I have it stocked. I always use slow or very slow...you don't want this stuff speeding up any more, especially in summer.

With polyester primers acetone works better than urethane reducer IMO.

So 2.2 up to 2.5 seems to be the popular range. I may try one of those cheap-o guns to see how it does before I invest in anything better.

I ordered one. Anxious to see how it lays the G2. Love getting new toys when I don't really need them!

It was a lot easier to hit the buy it now button on this $40 gun than on the SATA 3000 RP I have been watching. Guess I'll wait a little longer. Maybe the next paint job I get.
