Painting ATV Plastic

There is only one product in that system that seems unique, and that is the SU4902 Adhesion Wipe that is only recommended for new unprimed plastic. If you follow their procedure for heavily damaged plastic, SPI 700 can be used in place of DX103, and SPI 600 can be used in place of SU4903.

I'd be interested to hear what Barry thinks of the SU4902 Adhesion Wipe, I know that we use a 3M branded adhesion wipe made for plastic side moldings, and we now have zero comeback problems due to the tape not sticking to the molding. I think this technology applied to raw plastic parts might be a good thing.

I'd point out that the system calls for primer to be applied over this system, you cannot bc/cc directly over it. I would consider some kind of sealer to be the minimum before going to color.

Yeah i havent gotten to finish reading up on it, but I'm willing to give it a try...I've already spent hundereds in the past trying

Probably could have bought new plastic panels for less, LOL.

I would have but they are not available.... But I haven't tried to paint this one yet. There have been many in the past tho

I know that song oh so well. . .

I attended an I-Car plastics class years ago and the instructor was pretty sharp, he did some research on how some manufacturing facilities get paint to stick to that kind of plastic and found they flame the area before an adhesion promotor and paint is applied. I've had success in the past scuffing and cleaning the plastic well, then wave a propane flame over the surface, followed by adhesion promotor, wait 15 minutes and then a coat of sealer. The flame shouldn't be allowed to melt the plastic just a pass over-and what it does I have no idea... Not all adhesion promoters are the same though, I haven't tried SPI on this type of plastic, some of the promoters for repair work also work well like 3M's aresol. Maybe the 3M adhesion wipes Crash mentioned contain the same product.
