Paint Stripper wanted!

Boy I got duped into looking at this thread. I expected to see some painted strippers.

I've used the SEM bumper stripper alot. It's been discontinued though. I don't know of any good ones now. Bulldog still makes one I think but I never liked it.

Used paint stripper today. It doesn't work. Tried covering body panel in saran wrap to extend stripper time before it drys out. These companies won't walk away from their price block of a product no where near as good as it's pre VOC compliant predecessor. Which has wondering, if SPI can trully put out a superior product anymore? All companies are subject to perimeters set by government

This stuff works pretty good. I doubt its safe on plastic though.

THe reason it doesn't work anymore is because the active ingredient was banned by the EPA for consumer use. Methylene chloride was the active ingredient. Supposedly you can still get it for industrial use but I don't know where you can find it.

methylene chloride has been illegal in almost every country in the world. the us was the last few that kept hanging on. funny, it was actually trump that banned it in 2019 for consumer use. i know my gun stripper bucket sucks compared to what it used to be.

I called napa and theu tell me their Aircraft stripper contains both Methyl and methylene chloride. It's been banned, but govt has yet to take further action on all aspects of its sale

If you have a business they will sell it to you. They also have B-15 for dipping, and B-17E, ecofriendly

I ordered some last year, but I just called to confirm they still sell it. She said yes, they will sell the stripper with Methylene Cloride to anyone with a business ID number. But I was wrong on the ones to order, B-15 is the simi paste, and B-17 is liquid. I had a friend with the ID number order a one qt sample. I hope the Feds don't find out.:(

It was too many bathtub refinishers' demise and young people stripping old "brown wooden furniture" to repurpose inexpensive or discarded items into something re-finished with paint now too look more contemporary. Both groups of affected users likely never had any inclination about "how not to use this product" and hence their unfortunate deaths.

The back-story is the costly disposal of smaller packaging of left-over cans at the consumer level--too many problems for many communities with funding problems now dealing homeowners accumulation of chemicals and paints. Commercially and industrially this dealt with pretty responsibly now and there are avenues set-up for various materials on a large enough scale to not be subsidized for the most part. About once a year or so--I will see a pile of auto paint remnants, some full gallons, half gallons of thinners, etc....... (some SPI at times) out by the road for "free". More people are getting out of this than taking it up as a past-time hobby. Artist's supplies same thing--old oil paints with the heavy metal oxides and the amateur film photographers with developer and fixers to get rid of.
