Paint Roadmap

Not pretty but damn sure Functional. Kinda 'evolved' overnight once people got wind of what I did.

Housekeeping IS Key.
You either work Hard keeping shite out from the start or you deal with It Later.
I hate Later work Period.
Looks like what I set up in my garage. The issue I have is all the dust in the garage door panels can’t be cleaned very well and dust goes everywhere when the door is deployed. It will have to remain in position until the paint is dry unfortunately.

Nice B body.
Your in a 'spot' for sure. It's a Mess any way you can think of and doing bodywork inside is just, uhh, insane but we do what we Do. The leaf blower was another handy tool. At least I don't have to Live in my shop and separated the Work from the Shop inside but still a task to keep things tidy.
Mine never was 'intended' to be a permanent fixture and never intended to even get into This gig. We basically finished the car and I asked him who was going to paint it and he said,
"You are"...... That was 20 years ago and I still haven't put up a proper door to the booth which is a slot car track now for my g'sons and myself.
Traded one addiction for another but it's paying off. I still have Everything and still paint but on a much smaller scale.

Just a thought, dirt comes from the car, and the person spraying the car because of static electricity.

Ground car, wear a cheap tyvack suit and a $2.00 head sock, and see the difference.
I have no filters and never wet the floor.

This is my play garage, I have built engines,
Converted brake systems and seviced auto trans in it.
I control airflow with the drive-in door.
Basecoat about 4 inches up from cement.
Clear about 1 inch up from cement.
Of course, this defies everything but for 24 years, I would pick this to paint vs a $150,000 paint booth.
Oh back in the day when I built the garage id have went a whole lot bigger say a 7 or 9-car garage.

Barry defies a Lot of things....

We get so 'involved' with the exact nature of the discussion and forget an angle then someone comes along and reminds us of something so simple and extremely important. What I respect most about the Site. Lot of different views, ways and means to do the Best possible.
And He's right,
YOU are your worst Enemy. More crap comes from You than about anything.
Static electricity IS an issue especially in Winter. I use to have a 3/8" eye bolt in the floor which had a length of #12 thhn stranded wire with a large alligator clamp and a center post welding magnet for grounding. Even tried electrostatic wipes. I use to wonder 'why' was crap seemingly attracted to my pretty paint work. Static charge.....
I use the hooded version of Tyveks. Never like the sock thing. Made my head itch and taped up my sleeve to my glove. Nothing screws a Clear job like Glove Sweat dripping out.

I am bald lol so not only saves beer money in haircuts but also no head sock needed lol. Now my German Shepherd Husky mix is a completely different story lol…
