OPINIONS ON DYNABRADE SANDERS WANTED

yep. i thought for years that it did . now i wouldn't go spraying it around my booth but it is goof for tools .

I just cant stand that the exhaust is right at the center of the tool so anything leaving is going to drip and get blended in. Maybe that is the next great invention of one that has a tail.

i use old socks. cut the foot out and slide the sleeve over the handle and use a rubber band on it.

When we got the new buffer we went with the Shurhold that has a 21 mm orbit, which is bigger than 3/4 so the smallest seems pretty small. did they have more than one model to sell?

A local supplier told me that 3/32 orbit is what you should use for sanding clear, What do you guys say?

He's repeating what the Manufacturers says. I used to only use 3/32 as well because of this. Jim C and others use 3/16. I switched because Jim said so and only difference I noticed is it's quicker. No negative differences. Wish I had done long ago. If you are only getting one get a 3/16.

3/32 is a waste of time. it will take you 4 times as long to get the job done. lol. some years back i had this discussion with the 3m rep and they dont recommend 3/32 for any of their products for color sanding clear.

Thanks a lot Jim, There is another guy here that said he has painted for 40 years and said 3/32 is for sanding clear. That is why I always come to you guys to get the facts so I can be sure what I really need.

yes he is right. 3/32 is for sanding clear and doing finer work BUT there is no advantage to it. only reason i can really think of is it might be good for someone who has never used a da. it cuts so much slower that it would be more forgiving for a newbe. the finish it gives doesnt buff out any easier though and sandpaper doesnt last longer or anything.

another superb sanders are Airvantage orbitals..

even better than Dynabrades in terms of ergonomics , low profile and weight....

Any of you guys use the dynabrades with the shroud around the disc to keep water from splashing? I'm trying to buy the sander that is right for me and avoid those that are clumsy to use, I appreciate you guys help.

i have never used that one. i like to be able to see the disc and pad if i am sanding anything detailed or getting right up to an edge. the regular sanders dont throw any water around anyway.
