New Evercoat body filler- Rage Ultra-

I agree old ways aren't always the best but if many body shop here in SLC tell you to go SLCC for autobody and refinishing school at not some high dollar schools because of how good it is and about how their methods are superior I wouldn't think they are wrong. Especially when numerous places say this.

I will try and post a video of shaping some filler on a body panel for all you guys here.

I cut discs like that to reach into corners or to "freshen up" an old disc, but if you are telling me I can use a 7" disc and get it as straight or straighter than a 9" block (or longer) I am sorry, I dont believe it.

I have trade magazines from the 50's and 60's that advocate using chicken wire and newspaper, as well as ads for the Schott panels that are intended to be used over the existing panel. The old ways arent always the best.

Marty.
They actually suggested using chicken wire in a magazine.. Scary and humorous all at the same time.

I mentioned a while back that I had purchased a couple gallons of rage, I'm not happy with this last batch. Both gallon containers had undisolved solids, possibly talc or clay chunks, not certain but they were white and you couldn't get them to break up and disperse into the rest of the filler no matter how much you mixed. When I spread, the chunks would catch on the spreader and leave gouge streaks. Rage gold. The recent experience makes me not in such a hurry to try ultra. :(

Rage Gold I've had that problem with it also. Never with Rage Ultra. We've switched to the Evercoat Edge line. We use the Edge Premium which is basically the same as Ultra but priced better. Sands really easy and priced better than Ultra. Also they have a product called "Sync" whic you can mix in with your filler or glaze and extend the working time. I love that stuff when I'm using glaze as it extends the work time in hot weather quite a bit. Instead of 30 seconds to apply the product it will extend it to 5 minutes or so. Check with your Evercoat jobber to see if they carry it.

Cool, thanks. Yes extended spread time especially for thin glaze spreads in the summer would be awesome.

Since Quantum is epoxy based, does that make it waterproof? Also, would quantum filler be an improvement over the rage extreme I use now? Thanks!
