A while ago I had my 66 Chevelle painted in PPG DBU, the materials used for the mix were:
DMD 663 White
DMD 648 Weak Black
DMD 639 Med Chr Yel
DMD 643 Lt Chr Yel
DBX 695 Clear Base
The paint supplier at one point inadvertently mixed up a gallon of paint and instead of using the DBX 695 clear balancer (DBU), they use the DBC clear base DBX689.
The car needs some spot work, and the painter only deals with Standox paint these days. He tried to get his paint supplier to match the PPG code but they are telling him they will never be able to match well enough to panel paint or even blend.
I have this gallon of paint that was a "screw up" (DBU toners in DBC base), I'm wondering if it can be used? I don't know which if any of those DMD toners used are universal, nor do I know what will happen if I try to use that paint with DT reducer. Do the old DBU toners actually need the reactive reducer to perform properly?
